The Carpe Diem, a 61 foot private corporate luxury yacht berthed in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico is normally brought to Newport Beach Harbor every five years for various maintenance. However, on this trip the yacht was brought to port at Cabrillo Way Marina South in Los Angeles Harbor due to lack of available slips in Newport Beach.
The trip costs approximately $25,000.00 in fuel, so the window tinting job needed to be done right the first time. The objective is for glare, heat, and most importantly privacy.
The interior has very expensive mahogany, and leather detailing, mitigating liability was of the essence. This installation was also a challenge due to the accessibility to some of the glass panels.
We used Solargard Galaxie 5 hc high-performance automotive film. The salt water exposure to a full metalized film would have caused corrosion, therefore we used a hybrid film. The glass had to look factory tinted; reflectivity was not an option, even though the performance numbers would have been much higher on a commercial grade window film.
Captain Jeffery Hamm chose wisely on selecting EPIC Glass Tinting. Southern California is saturated with low-end hacks that primarily use inferior products that have flooded this competitive market.
